Winning with Integrity: An FEI and CEBC Event

December 16, 2015

Join us January 28, 2016, as we co-sponsor an event with the University of St. Thomas Center for Ethical Business Cultures, "Winning with Integrity: A Conversation on Sports, Ethics and Leadership."
(1.5 Ethics CPEs are pending.)

Sports exert a powerful influence in American culture. Various sports experiences as children and adults, in schools, colleges, in community leagues, help to shape an individual's character, sense of right and wrong, fair or unfair, and performance as a person, team member and leader. Coaches, teammates, competition, personal ambition, and organizational pressures forge and challenge those emerging values.
At every step, individuals and organizations in sports and in business may choose to bend the rules and spirit of the "game" or to play, and perhaps win, with integrity. Building commitment to ethical conduct in sports and business requires building a culture that aligns individuals and organizations around core values. Doing so demands leaders who are attuned to broader societal issues and values that influence their organizations and teams.
How do experiences in sports influence character, values and ethics? What dynamics support, reinforce or threaten ethical conduct? In sports and business do we value winning at all costs? How can leaders play an active role in strengthening and honoring ethical culture? And, how can leaders better anticipate and minimize the risk of individual and organizational misconduct that can erode commitment to values? Join us for an engaging and enlightening discussion.

Panelists include:
Chris Wright, President, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx
Kevin Warren, Chief Operating Officer, Minnesota Vikings
Tom Kurvers, Senior Advisor to the General Manager, Tampa Bay Lightning
Lisa Kihl, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Sport Management, University of Minnesota

The conversation will be moderated by John Tauer, Ph.D., Head Coach, Men's Basketball and Professor of Psychology University of St. Thomas.
