Dr. Confer will share how Be The Match is saving lives every day with the impact they have on curing cancer. For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 25 years Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program ® (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. Be The Match works every day to save lives through transplant.
Dr. Confer is the chief medical officer of Be The Match and the National Marrow Donor Program. He also holds appointments as associate scientific director of the CIBMTR and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. For more than 25 years, he has worked in blood and marrow transplantation, immunobiology and clinical research. Confer became the NMDP's Chief Medical Officer in 1999.
